Several major roads in Northern Virginia and D.C. will be closed later this afternoon to allow space for the funeral procession for late Metropolitan Police Officer Paul Dittamo. Dittamo, who was 33 and joined the force in June 2009, was the first D.C. police officer to die in the line of duty since 2007 when a car he was driving crashed into a utility pole on October 30. Dittamo’s funeral procession will depart from Lake Ridge, Virginia around 12:30 p.m. today, proceed down several major roads including Interstates 395 and 295, the 11th and 14th Street Bridges and Alabama Avenue SE, and pass by the 7th District Police Station at 2455 Alabama Avenue SE before returning to Manassas for burial services. Drivers can expect that roads on this route will be completely shut down until approximately 1:30 p.m. this afternoon.
