WMATA, at least part of it, has officially joined the blogosphere! We’ll fully admit to not noticing that Metro’s Office of Long Range Planning had started a blog — cleverly titled PlanItMetro — until this morning, but I’ll be the first to admit that its got some interesting stuff to share. So far, there are posts about a draft map of high frequency Metrobus corridors, a breakdown of the goals of the 2040 Regional Transit System Plan and this really neat explanation of how WMATA and DDOT are assessing how to get people in and out of Union Station with greater efficiency.

On the whole, though, the blog is a big step in the right direction for an agency which many people believe operates behind a heavy curtain. It’s a good start, WMATA. Now, how about hiring a dedicated blogger to keep the public accurately and immediately informed on rail and bus disruptions?
