But two weeks ago, it appeared as if CBS Radio reporter Howard Arenstein, along with his wife Orly Katz, would get off scot-free on marijuana charges after a police witness didn’t show up at the pair’s preliminary hearing. But not so fast — Arenstein will still have to perform 90 days of probation after he was charged with possession of a controlled substance, reports Rend Smith. The more serious cultivation and distribution charges against the two were indeed dropped on November 16, but the evidence collected upon their arrest — including several eight-foot tall marijuana plants — allowed authorities to reopen the case against Arenstein. (Katz was not recharged.) We’re sure that the drug tests and treatment will be pretty embarrassing for Arenstein, but it sure beats getting thrown in the clink.
