A large stream of water, approximately twenty feet high according to one account, began shooting into the air this morning at the intersection of Mount Pleasant and Irving Streets NW. A D.C. Water crew was on the scene — maintenance work was being performed on a broken eight-inch water main near the intersection early this morning, but it is not clear what precisely caused the water to burst so violently into the air.

The geyser broke out in front of Ercilia’s Restaurant, which recently battled back from a fire to reopen.
