Just a PSA for all of you bike-sharing devotees out there: SmartBikeDC, the precursor to the city’s shiny new Capital Bikeshare system, will be officially disbanded on January 3, 2011. Riders recorded more than 50,000 trips on the now-obsolete SmartBike system since it opened in August 2008. The ten existing SmartBike stations will be removed and replaced with Capital Bikeshare stations over the first five weeks of the new year.
