The District’s troubled Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services might not be getting its fourth director of the year after all. The Examiner reports that Robert Hildum is still on the job, despite the fact that his resignation was supposed to go into effect on Friday. Hildum resigned last week, reportedly because he “didn’t get an emphatic endorsement from the incoming [Vince Gray] administration” — but Keith St. Clair notes that it was Gray who asked Hildum to stay at DYRS, instead of going back to his old job with the Office of the Attorney General. St. Clair notes that Hildum and Gray are supposed to meet after today’s Council legislative meeting (if time allows) and discuss Hildum’s future.

St. Clair reports that without Hildum remaining as interim director, DYRS could “shut down.” Of course, there are probably plenty of people out there who would argue that hitting the reset button on the agency might not be the worst idea in the world, considering what a shambles it has become.
