Sticky Rice, the popular Asian/sushi restaurant located at 1224 H Street NE, closed early last night after an assault occurred on the premises early Wednesday morning. Police responded to a call for an assault with a deadly weapon around 1:35 a.m. on December 29 — turns out that the restaurant was the scene of what is being called a “non-fatal stabbing incident.” Due to the altercation, the restaurant has been shut down for up to 96 hours by the Metropolitan Police Department.

One DCist tipster was eating at the restaurant last night when the closure order went into effect — according to that individual, the staff had everyone vacate the premises at 10 p.m. in compliance with the order. The Metropolitan Police Department has the power to temporarily close bars and restaurants when there are incidents of extreme violence.

Margaret Holwill, H Street Festival coordinator and general go-to source for all things H Street, reported via Twitter earlier this afternoon that the police had made an arrest in the case, and that the restaurant’s closure is a “customary closure until [a] hearing can be held.” Sure enough, it appears as if a man was arrested for the assault at 2:41 a.m., according to MPD arrest reports. However, a police spokesperson was unable to offer any additional information about the crime when contacted by DCist. The phone inside the restaurant was also not being answered today, but the restaurant did apparently call those with reservations today to inform them that they would not be open over the weekend.
