Photo by IVIax.Happy inauguration day, Washington. Today, Vince Gray officially becomes our mayor. During all-inclusive prayer services this morning, Gray again touched on his one city theme, saying “every leader will feel included in the moving forward of our city.”
>> Yesterday the U.S. Capitol was briefly evacuated following a commercial aircraft drifting into restricted airspace. Police quickly determined that the aircraft had lost radio contact and the pilot accidentally veered into the the wrong airspace.
>> Bethesda’s Suburban Hospital was on lockdown yesterday following the death of 40-year-old employee Roosevelt Brockington Jr. Brockington was found Saturday morning suffering from upper body trauma and died as a result of his injuries. Police searched the hospital for a suspect but were unable to find one after 4 hours.
>> Two people died after a plane and helicopter collided in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia Friday afternoon. A small plane collided with a medical helicopter, two people within the plane died. The names of the victims haven’t been released yet. While the helicopter was damaged, it landed safely with two crew members and a patient aboard.
>> Greater Greater Washington has yet more Walmart renderings, with images of the megastore planned for Ward 7. GGW noted, and I agree, the renderings of the building make it look like it would be be more at home at a university campus, but the building does look nice.
