Photo by Photos_By_Jenn.It’s easy to take the stance that sacred American structures are priceless. But where’s the fun in that? Besides, things like the White House are made of tangible materials and sit on land which has appraisable worth, so they can certainly be valued. Occasionally, such frivolous curiosities can even help bolster the monuments’ standing as a symbol for the current state of the country!
To wit: the Los Angeles Times reports that it’s been a rough year for the Commander-in-Chief’s 132-room combined home and office, which sits on 18 acres in beautiful downtown D.C. (Can’t beat that location!) Just like many homes around the country, the White House’s value has hit a rough patch — a $4 million hit in the last month alone — and is now appraised at $253.1 million. That’s way under the $331.5 million it was priced at but a few years ago during the real estate boom.
Now, I’m no realtor. But if you’re thinking about ponying up for the property, I have it on good authority that the people who live there won’t go without a fight. You’ll probably have to pay one hell of a premium. Then again, you might be able to negotiate a discount if you bring up the fact that things are usually somewhat restless outside your front door.
