The Republicans are here, and they’re looking to make cuts when it comes to the staff budgets of Representatives. Well, how about starting with water? D.C. Water general manager George Hawkins has sent new Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) a letter, suggesting that the Congress dump the costly (and environmentally unfriendly) water bottles in favor of reusable bottles filled with crisp, delicious D.C. tap water. Hawkins, motivated by this recent GOOD report which indicated that the House spent $190,000 on bottled water last year, offered to supply every member of Congress with a reusable bottle, free of charge.

Is there any chance that Boehner actually takes Hawkins up on his offer? We’re not holding our breath — but, hey, you never know. Here’s Hawkins’ rather charming letter:
