Photo by elliotmitchell.Good morning, Washington. The reverberations after Saturday’s massacre inside a Safeway in Tucson, Arizona which killed six and severely injured Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) continue to move through the nation, and Washington is certainly no exception. The Post talks to regional Congressmembers who say that the event won’t cause them to change the way they communicate with their constituents, citing the fact that “threats…are part of the job.” In fact, the event at which Giffords was shot, “Congress on Your Corner,” was partly the brainchild of Maryland Representative Chris Van Hollen. A small group of residents gathered outside the Capitol Saturday night to hold a candlelight vigil, and President Barack Obama has called for a national moment of silence at 11 a.m. this morning. D.C. Mayor Vince Gray, who called the incident “unfathomable,” will take part in the remembrance inside the Atrium of the Wilson Building.

After the fire was put out, the firefighters found a woman’s body inside. Fire and homicide detectives are investigating the incident.
Prince George’s Plans New Crime Action Plan: After the County experienced its ninth homicide of the year on Saturday, Prince George’s County police are reaching out to other authorities and community and business leaders to create “a formidable force that will bring calm to all segments of our County.” The new action plan includes increased cooperation with local and federal authorities. In other news, the county’s council — faced with not only the snowballing violence, but also a large budget gap — is literally retreating.

This Day in DCist: Last year, for some unexplained reason, NBC thought it would be a good idea to pair Redskins legends Joe Theismann and Joe Gibbs in the announcer’s booth; in 2009, the market for tickets to Barack Obama’s inaugural parade hit its peak on Craigslist.
