Photo by BillKoplitz.Good morning, Washington. Here’s to starting your (hopefully) long weekend. Today will be warmer than the past week – a balmy 40, so go outside and bask in the sun while you can because it looks like we might be getting some snow Monday.
>> The Young Fenty write-in campaign was fined $18,500 for improperly using Fenty’s campaign materials during their own campaign to get Fenty’s name on the ballot following his primary loss. Josh Lopez, who coordinated the effort and is also running for the empty at-large councilmember position in April, could be personally responsible for the fine – he is reaching out to lawyers to see if that’s the case. That could be a pretty big dent to his chances at his at-large run.
>> As a reminder, avoid the Blue and Orange lines into Virginia at all costs this weekend, in case you managed to miss it, huge track work coupled with the Foggy Bottom station closed will mean a big mess on those lines.
>> Michelle Rhee a Republican darling? That’s what Mike DeBonis wonders in his blog, pointing out she showed up at New Jersey governor Chris Christie’s (R) State of the State address, made an appearance on Fox News, and has been called out on the Heritage Foundation’s blog as the right way forward with education. Of course, DeBonis also points out that she has garnered many Dem praise as well and perhaps she’s just, you know, bipartisan.
>> GW is starting an online high school in tandem with Herndon-based K12 Inc. The private school will begin classes this month. Students from the U.S. and abroad will have access to K12 Inc’s curriculum of over 100 classes. Admission will be “highly selective” according to K12 Inc officials. Seems like the university hopes it will be an interesting experiment in online education as well as continue to build its brand.
