If you spend about 10 seconds looking at each picture entered in the DCist Exposed contest, it would take you roughly three hours to make it through the over 1000 images submitted. Each of our judges spent that, and more, and did so gladly.

Day in and day out, we see your talented work in our Flickr group. It doesn’t cease to amaze. Whittling the show down to a manageable 42 photos wasn’t easy (the final meeting was almost five hours long). But, five years in, we’re happy to say that this year’s Exposed still manages to surprise us with wonderful images of and from this Capital City.

Many thanks to our judging panel this year, DCist’s own Aaron Morrissey, Lynne Venart, Ian Buckwalter, James Calder, Heather Goss and Samer Farha. We’re thrilled to be working with Drew Porterfield and Long View Gallery, who will host us again this year from March 15-27. Look for a post soon about our opening nights activities and tickets, and follow us on Twitter to stay on top of it all.

And to celebrate our fifth anniversary, we’re publishing a special edition magazine with many of the great photos from the last four years – and this year’s winners, too! It’s not too late to back our project on Kickstarter – we’ve made our minimum, but ordering your copy that way will ensure you have one. We’ll have them for sale at the show, but why risk it?

If you’re one of the winners, we’ll send you an email later today with details on how to get into the magazine as well as what you need to do between now and the show open. Without further ado, after the jump, your 2011 DCist Exposed Photography Show winners:
