Mohamed, who had been traveling through Yemen and Somalia, was locked up after attempting to renew his visa at an airport in Kuwait. He then claims he was beaten during questioning by federal authorities.
Mohamed’s lawyer has stated that Mohamed was detained at the request of the United States; Mohamed himself alleges that he was tortured during the course of his detainment — “repeatedly struck in the face while blindfolded and handcuffed and that he was beaten with a stick” while being questioned about potential ties to Anwar al-Aulaqi, who has allegedly been linked to several terrorist actions against the U.S. Mohammed says that federal investigators continued to interrogate him in Kuwait, despite the fact he refused to answer questions without an attorney present.
