A federal grand jury has charged two MPD officers with taking at least $10,000 to protect Van Ness liquor store Calvert Woodley. Following a 2006 robbery, Malcolm Rhinehart and Abraham Evans are charged with accepting approximately $25 a night, for two years, to protect the liquor store while on duty. If convicted, they could face 24 to 30 months in prison. A third police officer involved in the incident, Nathaniel Anderson, pleaded guilty on November 5 and awaits sentencing. Anderson admitted that he delayed his response to another incident and provided misinformation to a police dispatcher to avoid responding while watching the liquor store.
