This morning, WMATA unveiled a memorial in honor of the 26 employees who have lost their lives while working for the agency, including track workers, bus drivers, police officers and others. The memorial, a 12-foot piece of granite in the shape of a Metro signage pylon located on the mezzanine near the 12th and F Streets NW side of the station, was officially introduced this morning. The memorial was first privately shown to a a small group of family members, some of whom were anxious to make a rubbing of the names of those whose names are engraved on the sides of the memorial — which is understandable, as the design of the memorial is strikingly similar to Maya Lin’s minimalist Vietnam Veterans Memorial.

Obviously, it’s unfortunate that this monument has to exist at all. But what’s your opinion on the form it took?
