Having the support of the city’s political establishment pays off — literally.

Interim Councilmember Sekou Biddle, who is fighting to keep his seat in the upcoming April 26 special election, raked in over $53,000 in campaign contributions this month, more than doubling any of his challengers. Jacque Patterson, president of the Ward 8 Democrats, cemented his place as one of Biddle’s primary competitors, taking in just over $20,000. Vincent Orange, who was bested by Biddle in the internal contest to fill the seat until the special election, seems to be running low on steam, raising no money at all. (As an amusing indication of how many times Orange has tried to get back into elected office, he filed campaign finance reports for his 2006 mayoral bid, 2010 council chair attempt and his current At-Large hopes.)

The other candidates for the At-Large seat once occupied by D.C. Council Chair Kwame Brown trailed behind Biddle and Patterson.
