Gilbert Arenas? Mike Wise? Sports radio? I had some idea that the combination of the three would result in something pretty amazing, but, really, I had no idea. Arenas, in case you didn’t get the chance to read our post about it yesterday, will be returning to town tomorrow night as his new team, Orlando, will play the Wizards at the Verizon Center. Gil made an appearance on Wise’s 106.7 The Fan radio program this afternoon, and it was nothing short of amazing.
Dan Steinberg did the yeoman’s work of transcribing Arenas’ appearance on the program, and while he claims that he rushed through the transcription, that really doesn’t matter. Here’s Arenas on what he’d like to say to Wizards fans:
Um, we’ll start with the people that’s upset. You know, some people just can’t forgive. And that’s just the way life is. You know, I can’t forgive some things, either. At some point I hope they can forgive me as a person. Maybe not as a basketball player. Maybe i wasn’t worth the contract. Hey, I don’t think anyone’s worth $100 million if Michael Jordan wasn’t, but hey, that’s what Abe Pollin thought I was worth, and if someone put $100 million in front of you, you’re gonna take it, too….So for the people who can’t forgive some of the stupid things I’ve done and did, I was just trying to be entertaining. And when I got hurt and I’m sitting there, I can’t do anything, so I’m just trying to entertain you somehow.
Arenas also told Wise that his pet sharks were dead, “a simple remedy of somebody throwing pennies in the fish tank,” talked about blogging and a lot more. Seriously, go read the whole thing.
UPDATE: I’ve now been informed that the first part of a six-part candid interview Arenas granted to Comcast SportsNet will also air tonight at 6 p.m.
