Patrick “P-Thugg” GemayelWhen the tag line attached to a group bills them as “the only successful Arab/Jew partnership since the dawn of human culture,” you can’t help but have a slight chuckle and your curiosity piqued. For the better half of a decade, Montreal duo Chromeo, comprised of David “Dave 1” Macklovitch and Patrick “P-Thugg” Gemayel, have used their keen wit as the icing on a pretty sweet musical cake.
The Chromeo sound is rooted in the electro-funk championed by the likes of Roger Troutman, but accompanied by light-hearted, yet surprisingly dense lyrics. At first glance, it seems like an odd combination — however, the guys have made it work over the course of three studio albums, including their latest release, Business Casual. All along the way, they’ve managed to add to an ever-expanding fan base.
On the eve of their two-night stand at the 9:30 Club this weekend, we were able to ask P-Thugg a few questions about what makes Chromeo tick.
