Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans wants to bring the Washington Redskins back to D.C. This is not new knowledge, nor is he the only Councilmember to have made such optimistic overtures. Fully aware that the Redskins are tied into a lease at FedEx Field for another 16 years, Evans (and others) have taken a different tilt: trying to woo the team to relocate their training facilities to the District from faraway Ashburn, Virginia. Dan Snyder, when he’s not busy stifling the free press, is reportedly “investigating the possibility.”

According to Mike DeBonis, Evans also doesn’t think Snyder’s lawsuit will have any effect on the idea, stating that he finds Snyder to be “professional, courteous and friendly.” Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells, however, doesn’t agree, giving DeBonis a quote which really deserves to be noted in its entirety:

“I had not seen Dan Snyder as really being a Washingtonian or really a contributing leader to the community with his stewardship of the team,” he said. The lawsuit, he added, “continues to reaffirm a lack of sensitivity or connection with the city and its fans. There’s a civic relationship between a city and its football team, and Mr. Snyder has done very little to nurture that. Now, he’s done more to injure it.”

Your move, Councilmember Evans.
