As you might have noted in Thursday’s Popcorn & Candy post, Eric Hilton, one half of uber-DC group Thievery Corporation and prodigious opener of trendy bars and restaurants, has now branched out to filmmaking. With…interesting results. His film, Babylon Central, will be screened at the Our City Film Festival this Sunday.
The film is about Sebastian, Seb for short of course, a bike courier by day and a DJ by night, who fails to deliver an important package for his boss, a public relations “guru.” I’ll let Babylon Central’s website tell the rest:
Seb finds himself an unwitting participant in an economic power-play with a Saudi Prince as the Saudi government attempts to divest from the US dollar. As Seb begins to fall for the Prince’s daughter, his friends are dragged into the conflict. Throughout his struggle, the dark powers that operate in Washington, DC (modern-day Babylon) are revealed, and the Achilles heel of the US Empire is exposed.
Of course, Thievery Corporation provides the music for the film. While I didn’t read the whole script like Ryan Kearney did, I think I can confidently say, that Hilton should stick to opening cool bars and performing in his band.
