Ted Loza, former chief of staff to Ward 1 Councilmember Jim Graham, is reportedly scheduled to appear in court for a plea hearing this afternoon. The hearing will be held at 3 p.m.

To refresh your memory: Loza was arrested in September 2009 on several charges of conspiracy, bribery and extortion. He stands accused of accepting free travel and money from an undercover federal agent in exchange for pushing legislation favorable to the D.C. taxicab industry. According to charges filed last spring, Loza accepted more than $30,000 in benefits — including trips to Ethiopia and Miami, a free parking space in Adams Morgan for his girlfriend, and a series of cash payments ranging from $500 to as much as $4,000 — which he thought was being provided by taxicab industry lobbyist Abdulaziz Kamus. Loza pled not guilty to the charges last April.

The scandal also led to the discovery of several sordid details of Loza’s personal life — including Loza’s incredibly messy relationship with a Salvadoran woman with whom he fathered a child.

Graham has not been a target of the federal investigation.
