Yesterday, dozens of protesters descended on the state of Wisconsin’s D.C. offices at 444 North Capitol Street NW to participate in a Service Employees International Union-organized solidarity rally.
Several attendees — including a former D.C. teacher, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and a nurse at Washington Hospital Center (who are currently preparing for their own one-day strike) — spoke about maintaining solidarity with workers in Wisconsin who have been protesting for days regarding Governor Scott Walker’s controversial budget proposal that would eliminate collective bargaining rights for unionized workers.
Legislators in Wisconsin broke an unprecedented 40-hour debate over the bill this morning with a deal which will lead to a vote on the measure today.
