Did you know that Patrick Mara, current Ward 1 Member of the D.C. State Board of Education and a candidate running in the race to fill an at-large D.C. Council seat, is a Republican? Did you also know that former President George W. Bush and Senator John McCain are also Republicans? If you did not realize these facts, then boy, do we have the site for you.
The self-proclaimed work of “a DC resident who wants to share Patrick Mara’s anti-DC background, that the candidate himself does not tell voters,” patmaraisarepublican.com popped onto the radar of the local politariat this morning. It’s all pretty funny, what, with the Homer Simpson-type logic (i.e. “Lisa, I’d like to buy your Republican-repellant rock”). It’s no less than what you’d expect from someone who a) doesn’t care for the GOP and b) spent an evening perusing OpenSecrets.org.
But the site, silly though it may be, does raise an interesting question: come April 26, will enough District residents use the fact that Mara is a Republican to whitewash a careful consideration of his qualifications during the upcoming special election?
