In yesterday’s Go Home Already, we noted that Ward 8 D.C. Councilmember Marion Barry was able to get the boot removed from his 2002 Jaguar after ponying up only a portion of the money he owed the city. This led to some questions from readers about whether it was possible for anyone to get a boot removed without paying the full balance owed.

Well, it doesn’t look like Barry received any special treatment. According to Department of Public Works spokesperson Linda Grant, vehicles are eligible to be booted if they have garnered a minimum of two tickets that DPW considers outstanding — meaning they are 60 days old, have not been paid and are not under adjudication. “If you’ve gotten a boot, you can pay off those [tickets],” said Green, and have the boot removed even with other citations to your name. According to reports, Barry paid six of the nine tickets he owed — and the three left outstanding all occurred within the last 60 days, so they would not be cause DPW to boot the Councilmember’s Jag at this juncture.
