Allen Sessoms, the President of the University of the District of Columbia, responded to accusations that he ran up several thousands of dollars in lavish travel costs on the District’s dime, including international jaunts to England and Egypt and a trip to Wyoming on which he brought his family.

Yesterday, WTTG/Fox 5 reported that Sessoms is prone to charging incredibly pricey flights to the University — a $1,443 flight to Boston, a $2,229 flight to San Antonio and a $7,952 flight to Cairo, among them. The Post reports today that Sessoms claims that he needs to purchase expensive reimbursable tickets because he has a leg problem. ‘It’s all receipted, all above-board,” Sessoms told the Post. Fox 5’s Tisha Thompson however, says that’s not the case, reiterating that the University’s paperwork is a “mess.” Thompson reports that Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells (who has been on a bit of a tear recently with cleaning up messes) has asked the D.C. Auditor to look into the Sessoms mess. Meanwhile, some students at the university are calling on Sessoms to resign.
