Photo by philliefan99.According to sources, a group of food truck vendors around Farragut Square were temporarily shut down and threatened with arrest by U.S. Park Police before a Metropolitan Police Department officer intervened this afternoon.
Food Truck Fiesta, a blog which tracks food trucks around the city, reported that “a lot of random SUVs” descended on the Square earlier this afternoon, and, over the span of about a half-hour, “shut down all of the DC food trucks that were parked around” the Square. A source with the District’s Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs tells DCist that indeed, the agency is investigating reports of Park Police attempting to shut down trucks this afternoon. According to our source, the situation was resolved when a Metropolitan Police Department officer which has dealt with trucks in the past spoke with Park Police authorities and got them to back off. The square and sidewalks are National Park Service property; the curb and street where the trucks set up shop, however, are city property and not under Park Police jurisdiction.
A request for comment from the Park Police’s public information office was not immediately returned.
