Rumors began swirling around Twitter and the Internet this morning that this jacket shows off a leak of the Washington Wizards’ new logo, circled above — which basically is just a re-coloring of the team’s current brand with the franchise’s traditional red, white and blue hues.

Many of the team’s fans were excited about the team’s decision to revert back to this color scheme, but I’m sure most of them were hoping for a slightly more substantive change, kind of like what the Capitals did when they overhauled their brand in 2007.

What do you think? Lazy, or a step in the right direction?

UPDATE: In a blog post, Wizards owner Ted Leonsis wouldn’t confirm or deny that this was the new logo:

Many of you have seen a new version of a Wizards logo circulating online. We won’t get into confirming or denying the validity of any logo designs. We appreciate and understand the excitement surrounding the new color scheme, and we are planning a comprehensive brand launch. We will announce the specific date for our public unveiling event soon and look forward to sharing our new brand identify with our fans.

Also, around 1 p.m., the red, white and blue logo on the jacket was replaced with the current logo. According to Dan Steinberg, the designer of the jacket said that the red, white and blue logo was “obviously a mistake.”
