FRIDAY

ART: The Textile Museum (2320 S St. NW) presents Midnight at the Oasis, a night of drinks, hors d’oeuvres, music, gallery tours of the exhibit Colors of the Oasis: Central Asian Ikats, a scavenger hunt, and a chance to create your own art. 6-9 p.m. Tickets are $15 and include one drink.

DANCE: Young dancers from The Washington Ballet Studio Co. team up with The In Series’ opera singers for a performance at the Atlas Performing Arts Center Lang Theatre (1333 H St. NE) tonight. 8 p.m. Tickets: $39.

MUSIC: Parikrama finds inspiration from Led Zeppelin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Jimi Hendrix, but while they play some of the same instruments (guitar, drums, keyboards) they also incorporate the mridangam, tabla, and flute. See this band perform, as part of maximum INDIA, tonight on the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage (2700 F St. NW). 6 p.m. Free.

READING: What if John F. Kennedy had been assassinated before he’d ever become president? What if Robert Kennedy had been elected? Author Jeff Greenfield, who’s worked as a journalist since the 1970s, explores these “alternate histories” in his book Then Everything Changed. Hear more when he speaks tonight at Politics and Prose (5015 Connecticut Ave. NW). 7 p.m. Free.

>> “A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer” at GW’s Jack Morton Auditorium (805 21st St. NW) features a collection of monologues that exposed and condemn violence against women. These pieces have been written by Maya Angelou, Carol Gilligan, and others and at this event will be read by a number of speakers from Washington (an Assistant U.S. Attorney, the President of the National Organization for Women, the Executive Director of the National Building Museum, and others). Tonight and tomorrow at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 4 p.m. $20.

SATURDAY

MUSIC: Shamrock Fest will feature a mishmash of culture in the RFK parking lot (2400 East Capitol St. SE) this Saturday with both The Dropkick Murphys and Jersey Shore’s DJ Pauly D in attendance. There will also be a number of other bands, pub games, food, and of course, beers. 1 p.m. $30.
