UPDATE: Normal service at Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood resumed at 4:07 p.m., per WMATA. The Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood Metro station on the Red Line was temporarily closed for a short time this afternoon after a woman was struck by a train. WMATA says that the incident occurred around 2:24 p.m. According to WUSA9, preliminary investigations have concluded that a 23-year-old woman intentionally placed herself in front of a Glenmont-bound train, and then was trapped between the third rail and the chain link fence. She was transported to the hospital after being freed by emergency personnel. Red Line trains never stopped running through the station, but are currently single-tracking between Rhode Island Ave-Brentwood and New York Avenue-Florida Avenue-Gallaudet University stations.
