Blue, Orange, and Silver Line trains were temporarily suspended as officials investigated the scene.

Driving a Metrobus is an incredibly difficult job — but probably never more so than when a kid unexpectedly leaps out into the street. Sometimes, Metrobus drivers can manage to steer out of the way; sometimes, like in the video above, they can’t.

UPDATE: Friendship Heights has reopened, though trains are still single tracking through the station. At approximately 4 p.m. an adult male was hit by a train. The man was eventually removed at 4:49 p.m. after being stuck underneath one of the cars. WMATA has established bus shuttles between Bethesda and Van Ness-UDC. It is still unclear how the man ended up on the tracks or what his status is, though he was reportedly alive and conscious after being pulled from the tracks.

UPDATE: Normal service at Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood resumed at 4:07 p.m., per WMATA. The Rhode Island Avenue-Brentwood Metro station on the Red Line was temporarily closed for a short time this afternoon after a woman was struck by a train. WMATA says that the incident occurred around 2:24 p.m.

Last Friday’s D.C. Council hearing on pedestrian and bicycle safety was certainly one of the more emotional in recent memory, featuring several stories about cyclists and pedestrians who were killed or severely injured in incidents with vehicles.

UPDATE: Both WTOP and the Post report that the individual hit was a man who placed himself on the tracks intentionally. The man has been removed, but reportedly suffered severe trauma and has been taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
