Care for a little Pinkerton with your chili? Then here’s good news for you: Weezer will headline this year’s DC101 Chili Cook-Off, which will be held on May 21 outside RFK Stadium.

Festival organizers were probably feeling the heat, what with the Sweetlife Festival pulling in The Strokes as part of a massive expansion, though I’m not sure if bringing in a band whose debut came out seventeen years ago will produce quite the same buzz. (Then again, the Cook-Off’s supporting acts — including Seether, Papa Roach and Panic! At The Disco — probably hold a wider appeal for the festival’s usual target audience.) On the plus side, Rivers Cuomo and Co. tend to go pretty light on the band’s post-Green Album repertoire during these kind of summer festivals — will the opportunity to sing along to “Buddy Holly” drive you to RFK’s asphalt jungle?

If so, tickets go on sale Friday, April 8 at 10 a.m. and are $35. If the potential of listening to “Say It Ain’t So” while trying a whole bunch of chili really appeals to you, there’s also the option of ponying up $250 for “limited VIP tickets”, which include “complimentary beer, soda, water, private port-a-johns and an elevated view of the stage.” Private port-a-johns at a chili festival, eh? That actually might be worth it.
