Overnight, a large fire broke out at at vacant two-story building at 3001 Georgia Avenue NW. Several tipsters told DCist that the blaze, which encompassed both floors of the building around 1:20 a.m., created a heavy smoke cover over the residential Pleasant Plains neighborhood. (Prince of Petworth, for example, shares a striking description from the scene that stated “there were all these rats running down the alley and black smoke billowing around.”) Fortunately, D.C. Fire and EMS report that there were no injuries due to the fire.
