Photo by (afm). This weekend, Orange Line riders are in for yet another headache, as Metro will halt all service between Stadium-Armory and New Carrollton to perform major maintenance work.
Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, the Stadium-Armory, Minnesota Avenue, Deanwood, Cheverly, Landover and New Carrollton will close. That 8 p.m. time could be slightly misleading, though: the last eastbound Orange Line train that will service the affected stations will leave Vienna-Fairfax/GMU at 6:59 p.m. today. If you’re relying on the Orange Line to get home tonight, be sure to get to your station well before 8. Normal service will resume on Monday morning. The shutdown will allow WMATA to continue structural repairs at Cheverly, resurface 17,000 feet of rail, replace 500 track fasteners and repair 19 escalators and 14 elevators.
Metro will be operating free shuttle buses around the work zones, but, as usual, those choosing to use them will want to build in a sizable amount of time to get to Stadium-Armory where they can hop on the train and continue their journey. More details on this weekend’s Orange Line shutdown — and far less disruptive Red and Blue Line work — can be found at Metro’s website.
