CityMarket at O, the multi-million dollar development that will rise at the intersection of 8th and O Streets NW in Shaw, broke ground last September. Well, not really — the developers still had to get approval from the Department of Housing and Urban Development on a loan which would allow construction to get underway in earnest this summer. The good news? Michael Neibauer reports that the the first approval from HUD has come through and now, the project — which will include a 72,000-square-foot Giant grocery store, more than 600 condos, apartments and affordable housing for seniors, and a boutique hotel — is one step closer to going up.

As you might imagine, the developers are pretty excited about the possibility of getting construction started — and only a year or so after the project officially broke ground!

“We’re really happy,” said Susan Linsky, Roadside’s project manager. “All is good in the world in Shaw.”

Well, let’s not get too carried away.
