With today’s cold, dreary weather, a sidewalk cafe is likely the furthest thing from most people’s minds. But when we walked by Kushi Izakaya & Sushi last week, we noticed that they had applied for a permit for an unenclosed sidewalk cafe in front of their location on 465 K Street NW.

A spokesperson from Kushi told us they are still in the process of getting the permit — which the restaurant applied for in February — approved, but hope to open the patio before it gets cold. With the restaurant regularly reaching capacity around 6 p.m., this will hopefully make it a little easier for diners to enjoy the izakaya.
