Currently, motorists pay up to two dollars, each way, to use the Dulles Toll Road. But the one-way toll along the highway could climb to as high as $19.25 by 2040, reports Kytja Weir.

That’s the worst case scenario, of course. (And it should be noted that the toll to get to the actual airport is controlled by Congress, so it’d be unlikely to reach such heights.) But even if the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority — who manages the toll road — can get a federal loan to help defray costs, the maximum toll in 2040 for non-airport trips would still be $14.75. The reason for the high estimated tolls? The cost of constructing the Silver Line, 75 percent funded by Toll Road revenue and now $1 billion more expensive than it was originally.

Northern Virginia, you must be thrilled.
