UPDATE (2:45 p.m.): Police are still investigating, but there has been no hazard detected by hazmat crews on the scene. No injuries or illnesses have been reported so far.

The Hilton Garden Inn and other buildings around the 1200 block of 1st Street NE have been evacuated as authorities investigate a suspicious package located nearby. A DCist tipster tells us that both the Roti Mediterranean Grill and Potbelly have also been evacuated. Several streets in the area are also closed. The investigation began approximately an hour ago.
