TALK: Chef Spike Mendelsohn, who recently launched Sixth and Rye, a new kosher deli food trunk, joins cookbook author Joan Nathan at the National Archives (Constitution Avenue and 7th Street NW) to discuss food and its importance in Jewish holidays. This event is presented in conjunction with the new National Archives exhibit “What’s Cooking, Uncle Sam?,” which examines the U.S. government’s role in American food consumption. 7 p.m. Free.

MOVIE: The Black Cat Backstage’s (1811 14th Street NW) “Hero Girl” Drink and a Movie night is a screening of two Miyazaki films: the Oscar-winning Spirited Away and the whimsical and environmentally focused Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. FOOD & DRINK: Jackson 20 (480 King Street, Alexandria) hosts a five-course Pigs and Pinot dinner tonight, featuring intriguing dishes like Seared Scallops with Creamy Honeydew Purée and Bacon Paper, and Quail Wrapped in Lardo, paired with wines from Willamette Valley Oregon. 7 p.m. $85 (plus tax and tip).
