Interesting political news for those keeping an eye on the governance of Metro this morning: D.C. Councilmember Michael A. Brown will step down from the board, because it’s “hard for [him] to make a lot of meetings.” The Post reports that Brown, who has served as an alternate on the board for more than two years, will step down before the end of the year. Council Chair Kwame Brown told the Post that “an expert in the field” of public transit will take Brown’s place. Ward 6 Councilmember Tommy Wells also currently serves on the WMATA board.
Of course, it’s not like Brown will leave a gaping hole on the board or anything — after all, he only showed up for half the board’s meetings during the first half of 2010, occasionally showing up late and stepping out to field phone calls, even when there were important issues on the agenda.
