It’s been a bit of an up-and-down day for Metro news — let’s swing back to the positive side, shall we? The Post’s Dana Hedgpeth reported earlier this week that Metro riders will soon be able to reload their SmarTrip cards online. Such an ability, which many have long pined for, is expected to be launched in a limited pilot sometime in the next two months — when asked via Twitter, Metro spokesperson Dan Stessel said that all riders would be able to reload cards online “this summer.”

Of course, Metro will be moving away from SmarTrip cards in the very near future; during a board meeting this morning, it was revealed that the transit agency has received several bids for replacement technology, though a switchover is not expected to occur until next year at the earliest.
