New Council Chair Kwame Brown.

Over the last couple of months, Kwame Brown’s been laying relatively low, working on the city’s budget as his contemporaries battle allegations they paid rival candidates and get sued by the city for improperly spending its money. But it appears as if Brown’s name might once again be due up in the scandal lineup.

The city’s Office of Campaign Finance officially filed a complaint against the Council Chairman yesterday, alleging that Brown’s 2008 campaign failed to report hundreds of contributions totaling in the six figures.

OCF released the findings of potential impropriety back in April; the official complaint basically serves to certify those findings. A public hearing in front of the District’s Board of Elections and Ethics will now be scheduled, during which the board will be able to question Brown and members of his campaign staff regarding payments made to Banner Consulting (which had a contracting arrangement with Brown’s brother, Che) and other organizations connected to the Chairman’s campaign for reelection to an at-large seat in 2008.

Brown was deposed by OCF in April.
