UPDATE (3:55 p.m.):The FBI confirms with ABC7 that a bomb threat caused the flight delays at National Airport. The 44 passengers are currently being interviewed while the person who made the threat has been apprehended in Dayton.
Seems like this weekend the friendly skies over D.C. have been less than amiable. Ground traffic at Reagan National Airport was stopped for 12 minutes after a security threat arose on a US Airways flight. At approximately 1:25 p.m. U.S. Airways flight 2596 was sequestered in a remote part area of the airport landing area at the request of the FBI, as well as the TSA and local police. All 44 passengers and crew members were offloaded from the plane and transported to the terminal by bus.
Although the stoppage was short, it appears some flights were redirected to other airports, such as Dulles International Airport, as a precaution. Since the incident, flights are departing and arriving as normal.
According to WTOP, U.S. Airways flight 2596 is a daily commuter route between here and Dayton.
