Now here’s a sight you don’t see every day: hundreds of skateboarders making their way down 14th Street in mid-afternoon. No, it’s not some youth invasion, it’s just Go Skateboarding Day. Hundreds of skaters are making their way from palace5ive at 2216 14th Street NW (where we’re told there’s a grill and general skate-related merriment going on), to Pulaski Park, or, as it’s more commonly known, Freedom Plaza. (Or, alternatively, some go the National Mall. There’s a certain amount of spontaneity involved with Go Skateboarding Day, I’ve learned.) When they get there, they skate until the cops come and bust things up, and those who don’t get taken into custody head back north to skate uptown. Sounds like a good chance to grab a few photos and toss them into the DCist Flickr pool, if you ask me.
