Tuesday:
>> Northern California native Michael Franti holds multiple titles: rapper, punk rocker and poet. Tonight, he’ll be performing with his band, Spearhead, at the 9:30 Club. $40. 7 p.m.
>> The 1970s were filled with soul bands that are largely forgotten today. Fortunately, good music tends to have a long shelf life. D.C.’s own Father’s Children have piqued crate diggers’ interest in recent years with the track “Hollywood Dreaming” — to the point that a previously unreleased album from 1973, Who’s Gonna Save the World?, is finally going to see the light of day after its master tapes were saved from certain doom. The guys will be on hand at Marvin with sound selectors the Fatback DJs, Nitekrawler, Neville C, Deep Sang and Soul Call Paul. Free. 8 p.m.
>> Hip-hop heads of a certain age look back fondly to the 1990s as the culture’s good ol’ days. Musically, there were few groups as revered during that time period, and afterward, as A Tribe Called Quest. As was mentioned in Monday’s Silverdocs preview, the documentary Beats Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest tells the story of how three (and sometimes four) guys from Queens came to be regarded as all-time greats, but at the same time, lost their cohesion. While Q-Tip, Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Jarobi have all aired grievances related to the film, director Michael Rapaport and ATCQ member Phife will be on hand at AFI Silver Theater 2 in Silver Spring for some post-viewing discussion. $11. 8:30 p.m.
Wednesday:
>> The creator of numerous timeless songs, Sade will be in town at the Verizon Center with hit-making soulster John Legend serving as the opening act. $39.63-$173.25. 7:30 p.m.

>> “The Go-Round” brings some of the area’s best DJs to the U Street Music Hall to mix diverse music. On deck for the evening are DJs Roddy Rod, 2-Tone Jones, Cuzzin B, Face, Lance Reynolds and Quartermaine. Free. 9 p.m.

Sunday:
>> Music and performing are a family business for married couple Fatin Dantzler and Aja Graydon, better known as Kindred the Family Soul. The R&B duo will be at the 9:30 Club along with Noel Gourdin and D.C.’s Black Alley Band. $40. 7 p.m.
>> U.K. drum & bass artist LTJ Bukem has been on the scene since the early 1990s, and is making one of his few U.S. tour stops at U Street Music Hall. $15 in advance. 9 p.m.
Monday:
>> It wasn’t too long ago that L.A.-based electro soul duo J*DaVeY visited our fair city. Well, they’re back to perform at the Black Cat, where they’ll be joined by Elevator Fight (fronted by Zoë Kravitz) and Def Sound. $15 in advance/$18 at the door. 8 p.m.
