He won the 2009 Monk Competition and is performing in support of his new album, State of Art. 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets. $18 in advance, $22 at the door.
>> Local singer and trombonist Eric Felten leads his big band through 8 and 10 p.m. sets on Saturday and Sunday at Blues Alley. The program will feature swingin’ sounds from the World War II years. $25 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.
>> The Sunday Jazz Lounge, curated by guitarist Rodney Richardson and trumpeter Joe Herrera, returns to Twins Jazz in July. The Lounge features an opening solo set from a different artist each week, and then the guest joins the Richardson/Herrera Quartet. This week’s soloist will be monster trombonist Greg Boyer. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. $5.
>> Blue Monday Blues hosts a special 4th of July edition featuring a blues sextet under the direction of earthy singer Queen Aisha. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.
