Leslie Johnson, the wife of former Prince George’s County executive Jack Johnson and a member on the county’s legislative Council, is set to announce she’ll resign from her position today.
Current County Executive Rushern Baker and fellow Councilmembers had publicly called for Johnson to resign after she pled guilty last week to federal obstruction of justice and evidence tampering charges. Johnson’s resignation will reportedly take effect on July 31; a special election to fill the seat would take place this fall, after the Council’s August summer recess.
Johnson will be sentenced, likely to a period of 12 to 18 months, this October.
