It may be sunny outside right now, but here’s hoping you packed an umbrella with you today: the morning’s mild weather will soon give way to rainfall potentially exceeding two inches per hour. So says the National Weather Service, which has issued a Flash Flood Watch for the District and most of Maryland and Northern Virginia. That watch goes into effect at noon today and lasts until “late tonight.” (A “weak cold front [dropping] into a very moist and humid airmass” is to blame for your potential basement flooding, if you’re looking to curse something scientific later on.)
