>> Nasar Abadey has long been one of the area’s top drummers. His son, Kush Abadey, is following in his father’s footsteps. Catch the youngster lead a group through 8 and 10 p.m. sets tonight at Twins Jazz. $10 + $10 food/drink minimum.

>> Guitarist Chris Thomas King is best known for the Robert Johnson-esque character he portrayed in the hit Coen Brothers film, O Brother, Where Art Thou?. While that role recreated a certain place and time, he has devoted his career to bringing the blues into the 21st century. King will bring his contemporary sound to Blues Alley tonight for 8 and 10 p.m. sets. $20 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.

>> Equally comfortable singing, playing the trumpet or sitting at the piano, Andrea Capozzoli is a mainstay of Boston’s music scene. She’ll lead a trio that straddles the line between jazz and R&B on Thursday at Twins Jazz. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. $10 + $10 food/drink minimum.

>> Jazz Night in Southwest hosts guitarist/vocalist Earl Wilson and a group of talented local players. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.

>> A saxophonist’s saxophonist, Sonny Fortune has a powerful sound that has led to stints with Elvin Jones, Mongo Santamaria, Nat Adderly and a host of other greats. He will be leading his own group through 8:30 and 10:30 p.m. sets on Friday and Saturday at Bohemian Caverns. $20 in advance, $25 at the door.

>> Pianist Allyn Johnson has long been a fave here at DCist, especially his work with The Young Lions. Johnson has been branching out in recent years, and on Friday and Saturday will be leading his own trio at Twins Jazz. 9 and 11 p.m. sets. $15 + $10 food/drink minimum.

>> Fiery Latin jazz sensation Chuchito Valdes, son of Cuban legend Chucho Valdes, will perform 9 and 11 p.m. sets at HR-57 on Friday and Saturday. $25 + fees.

>> The Sunday Jazz Lounge, curated by guitarist Rodney Richardson and trumpeter Joe Herrera, will be at Twins Jazz every Sunday in July. The Lounge features an opening solo set from a different artist each week, and then the guest joins the Richardson/Herrera Quartet. This week’s soloist will be guitarist Ben Tyree, who is now in Brooklyn, but grew up locally. 8 and 10 p.m. sets. $5.

>> On Monday, local percussionist Chuck Redd teams up with guitarist Bucky Pizzarelli, who has been on the scene for nearly 70 years. They will play a free 6 p.m. show on the Millennium Stage with bassist Nicki Parrott.

>> Local blues artist Clarence “Bluesman” Turner will lead his group at Blue Monday Blues. 6 to 9 p.m. $5.

>> His debut release, Secret Handshake, just confirms what those who follow the local scene have known for a long time — Brian Settles is a sick saxophonist. He is celebrating the album with a stint as Artist-in-Residence at Bohemian Caverns, where he is performing every Tuesday in July. 8 p.m. $7 in advance, $10 at the door. >> Formed in 1976 with the goal of reviving the Cuban son tradition of the 1920s, Sierra Maestra provide a window into the island nation’s culture from that era. They will be performing at Arlington’s Artisphere on Tuesday. 7:30 p.m. $22-$25 + fees.

>> Based out of Annapolis, Jeff Antoniuk is one of the most respected saxophonists and jazz educators in the area. He will lead his band, The Jazz Update through 8 and 10 p.m. sets on Tuesday at Blues Alley. The show will feature guest trumpeter John D’Earth. $22 + $12.50 minimum/surcharge.
