Now that we’re in the middle of the dullest month of sports imaginable, basketball fans don’t have to wait until November to watch their favorite college and professional teams tipoff. In fact, there are several opportunities to watch some star-studded pickup basketball right here in the District.

The George Goodman League has been running since last month, and continues up until Friday, July 22. Located at Barry Farm near the Anacostia Metro, the Goodman League has attracted several NBA stars such as John Wall, Brandon Jennings and Kevin Durant. This season also marks the first time the league has been sanctioned by the NCAA, so expect some college players to make appearances as well. Games start at 6 p.m. on weeknights while tipoff is at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Kenner League kicked off its schedule earlier this month down in Georgetown. Featuring rosters filled with local college talent along as well as some current and former NBA players, the Kenner League takes place at McDonough Arena on the Georgetown campus and is held every weekend through Sunday, August 7. Don’t be surprised to see some Hoyas, Terps, Colonials and Patriots take the court this summer.

Both leagues are open to the public and free of charge.
